Gionee’s N978,400 Smartphone, The Gionee M2017.

Gionee’s N978,400  Smartphone, The Gionee M2017

While we are still enjoying the fact that the Lagos Harmattan is here (At last!), Gionee went ahead to unveil a new smartphone — The Gionee M2017, which was leaked
earlier in November and like you are going to read shortly, its biggest feature is the gargantuan battery.

The M2017 is said to have two 3,500mAh batteries (A total battery size of 7,00mAh), meant to last up to nearly 26 hours of continuous video playback. Other specs include a 5.7-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440, A 6GB of RAM, an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor along with dual rear camera lenses — 12MP sensor and 13MP sensor. This is paired with an 8MP front-facing camera, a fingerprint sensor, and an Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

The M2017 doesn’t come with two key features —  the Micro SD card slot and the 3.5mm headphone jack. Yeah, Gionee has finally joined the no-headphone-jack-gang.

However, these missing features didn’t get a rise out of me until I saw the price tag. The M2017 will have two versions, one has 128GB of onboard storage for Yuan 6999 (about $1,007) while the version with 256GB of storage is priced at Yuan 6,999 (about $2,446)!

Converting that to Naira, at the rate of N400, you’d have to pay about N978,400 to get the M2017.
